A charity for older people in Harrogate has taken over a car dealer's showroom as part of its Christmas celebrations
For more than 12 months, Sytner Volkswagen Harrogate has been backing the Supporting Older People charity in Harrogate, which aims to get elderly people together once a week.
Staff at the dealership have been providing transport to and from the group's 'Tea and Talk' sessions which take place at The Crown Hotel in Harrogate.
Earlier this month, the business on Saint James Business Park opened its doors to the charity for the entire day, hosting a Christmas party for over 60 people.
Kevin Howe, brand manager at Sytner Volkswagen Harrogate, said: "We have been helping out Supporting Older People for the past year now and we've forged a great relationship with the group.
"It's been a lovely experience for the staff and they've really started to form strong bonds while chauffeuring the charity's members to their base.
"The next natural step in our collaboration was to host their Christmas party and it truly was a memorable day for all involved.
"Putting our work on hold for the day was really important for us to truly get into the Christmas spirit.
"We worked closely with local caterer The Roast Inn and Bussey's Catering Hire to make sure we put on a fantastic day. Our staff helped serve the food while wearing Christmas jumpers and there was also a quiz and tombola."
Kate Rogata, director at Supporting Older People, added: "We're really thrilled that Harrogate Volkswagen hosted our Christmas party, especially after our former venue sadly closed down.
"When looking for a new company to help out, Volkswagen was the perfect choice given the bond we had already forged and we really can't thank them enough.
"We have built up a real relationship - an assistant accountant at the retailer even invited one of the ladies to spend Christmas day with his family!
"Some of our members don't get to see anyone from one week to the next, so our 'Tea and Talk' sessions really help out - and the Christmas get-together was certainly a real highlight for them."
As well as its 'Tea and Talk' sessions, the charity runs a home visiting scheme, singing group and an outings programme throughout the year.
The charity is always looking for new volunteers and drivers, and you can get more information by calling 01423 531490.
