A 66-year-old local man was walking through the Regent Terrace area at around 12.10am on Saturday 27 October when another man riding a bicycle tried to steal his bank card before assaulting him.
The victim suffered injuries to his head, face and body and was taken to Harrogate District Hospital for treatment.
The offender, who was wearing a dark-coloured bomber jacket, is described as white, aged between 20 and 30 years old with short, brown curly hair.
Officers are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or knows who is responsible to call them on 101, select option 2, and ask for Detective Constable Claire Brown or Harrogate CID.
