Bradford City Angling Association has been established for over 100 years.  Just when the club started, we're not exactly sure, but we do know that we rented at least one reservoir (Doe Park) from the Bradford City water company as far back as 1881.

The club has a large number of fisheries across Yorkshire and Lancashire. It has still water coarse fisheries near York, Knaresborough and Keighley, and coarse fisheries on the Rivers Aire, Ure and Swale.  The Club also has a wide range of trout and grayling fisheries on the Rivers Aire, Wharfe and Ure, as well as a salmon fishery on the River Ribble.

Bradford City Angling Association - Open Day

Bradford City Angling Association is having its Open Day on Saturday, May 6th on Gargrave Village Green, next to River Aire between 9.30 am - 4.30pm.

There will be various stands and stalls from a wide range of angling clubs, and national fishing and conservation organisations. An extensive program of activities on the day will encourage old and new anglers to get involved.

There will be;

  • Demonstrations

    Well-known names and local anglers will demonstrate different fly fishing casting styles (including traditional, Tenkara and fly-first fast water coverage). “On the river” instruction will be provided by England Team member Jonathan Barnes on how to read and fish the water effectively when fishing.

     The Wild Trout Trust, under the guidance of Prof. Jon Grey, will demonstrate how to improve stream flows. Jon will also lead a short explanatory walk along the river to show the effect of work already undertaken by Bradford City Angling Association.

  • Tuition

    There will be a great opportunity for people of all ages to get free instruction on various fly fishing techniques including Tenkara and the Italian casting style. This tuition will be done by professionally qualified instructors under the guidance of Clark Colman and Stephen Cheetham.

    There will be special attention given to Juniors with a prize for a small competition run by the Salmon and Trout Conservation UK team.

  • Education

    Various groups, including The Wild Trout Trust, the Riverfly partnership, and the Aire Rivers Trust together with local angling clubs, will have stands telling people about the roles they play in preserving and promoting the Upper Aire River.

    Everyone is welcome to come along and support this event.  All receipts will be donated to support valuable conservation work of the Wild Trout Trust. There will be something of interest for everyone, irrespective of age or fishing ability.
