We are now looking to add to our Positive Behaviour Support team to work providing specialist behaviour support for students with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and behavioural, emotional and social difficulties (BESD).

We are now looking to add to our Positive Behaviour Support team to work providing specialist behaviour support for students with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and behavioural, emotional and social difficulties (BESD).

Job Summary:

The Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner Assistant will be required to work with staff in the provision of a high quality behaviour support service employing a multidisciplinary approach so that students are successful learners.

The role will involve supporting young people whose behaviour can be challenging, however the post-holders primary role is to support, develop and embed the principles and practice associated with PBS under the guidance of the senior practitioner.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Working with other professionals in the Henshaws team. You will contribute to the development of a coherent college behavioural strategy and service for students requiring additional support, ensuring that a student centred approach is consistently employed so that the needs of students are supported, both in college and residential houses, to maximise the chance for individual success.
  • Under the guidance of the Senior PBS Practitioner, contribute towards the development of functional behaviour assessment at pre-entry and during placement and assist in planning and delivery of programmes.
  • Regularly assess, record and report on the progress and achievement of students, providing regular contributions to student review reports and MDT Meetings. Identify students ‘at risk’ of not completing and support planning to mitigate any risks.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Knowledge, understanding and experience of the nature and causes of behavioural difficulties in young people and developing successful strategies to overcome these difficulties.
  • Experience of working with young people who have challenging behaviours which require crisis management techniques.
  • Building effective relationships with students, listen to and understand student needs and find effective ways of meeting these.
  • Experience of instructing small groups.
  • Have or be prepared to undertake appropriate and nationally recognised qualifications in PBS.
