About:
Mrs. Beeton, My Sister

Award-winning playwright Alison Neil is bringing her one-woman production of “Mrs Beeton, My Sister” to Melmerby Village Hall (Near Ripon) on Saturday March 21st. The production is a new interpretation of her successful play “Bella – The Story of Mrs Beeton” which toured the UK for 14 years and was broadcast on BBC Radio 4.
The original baking superstar, Isabella Beeton is best known for publishing her Book of Household Management in 1861 which sold 60,000 copies in its first year and was still in print until recently. She was the eldest of 21 children and this production features her younger sister Bessie reflecting on the extraordinary, but short, life of her famous sister who was undoubtedly the cooking celebrity of the Victorian age.
Funds raised will go to St Mary’s Church in Wath. Meri Snowdon, one of the organising committee, said: “Alison’s shows have been described as ‘lively, humorous and engaging’ and we feel this is a performance not to be missed. Also, it would make an ideal gift as it’s the day before Mothering Sunday.”
Tickets for the show cost £12.50 (children 12 and under are £7.50) and include afternoon tea and a Q&A session with Alison. They can be obtained from 01765 640949 or contact merisnowdon@gmail.com
