Children getting under your feet? Complaining of being bored? Yes, even a loosened lockdown has its problems.

Harrogate Brigantes Rotary Club has come up with an activity to keep the under 12s happily and creatively occupied for a good while - the Lockdown Lyrics poetry competition. It is launching this week and will run till the end of the summer term (17 July).

All the children have to do is to write as many poems as they like (each of no more than 28 lines) on one or more of the following subjects:

A Better World
I Wish
My Hero

So that they can feel they’re also helping do some good in the present difficult circumstances there’s a £5 entry fee per child. This will go into Brigantes’ Covid Relief Fund and be distributed to help worthwhile local causes and organisations.

And the young poets could win a prize! The writer of the best poem on each subject will receive a £30 book token.

So, if you have children or grandchildren under 12 years old you could get them doing something worthwhile, and help Brigantes make a difference. You can find a downloadable entry form on the Club’s website:
