Stray FM's Local Hero Awards 2018 at Rudding Park in Harrogate

Employer of the Year 2018

From hundreds on nomination forms, the Local Hero Awards have been whittled down to finalists from across Harrogate, Craven & Wharfedale.

Here are the nominations for the Employer of the Year Award, sponsored by HQ Personnel.

Tiny Teapots Nursery's

Tracy Hornby

Having worked at Tiny Teapots, and its previous incarnations, for over twenty years, Tracy has become an integral part of the nursery’s community. Working her way up to being the manager, Tracy has seen it all but remains a source of constant support and strength to her team, and the families that use the nursery alike. Often Tracy can be found covering for members of her team to enable them to have time with their own families, she can even be found cooking on occasion! Her dedication and leadership led to her being nominated multiple times by her team and a number of the parents who cite her smiles and ability to get to know everyone involved at the nursery as just some of the things that set her apart.

Comply Direct

Employees are at the heart of the culture at Comply Direct. Staff are encouraged to take part in a health and wellbeing programme that has given them time to take part in mindfulness sessions, provided personal trainers, massages, yoga and pilates tasters and even step counters for every employee. Private healthcare is also supplied, which has covered team members for significant operations. Staff also benefit from flexible working time, meaning they never have to miss that school play or important appointment. The company has also raised thousands for charity and volunteered for important causes across the Yorkshire Dales and Craven. All of this is supported by high levels of benefits that beat those of much larger corporate competitors, enabling the company to achieve its lofty ambitions.

Ripon Farm Services'

Geoff Brown

Geoff is the Managing Director of Ripon Farm Services, which has built up over 36 years into one of the area’s leading agricultural businesses. Geoff is described as wanting to build a company that delivers first class service, no matter the cost. And he certainly delivers that, as he’s often seen traveling around the countryside of North Yorkshire delivering parts to keep the wheels of the farming community turning. Geoff doesn’t switch off, with his phone always at his side ready to find solutions to problems and to help those who are struggling – even those outside of the agricultural industry in which he predominantly works.

The winners will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony at the beautiful Rudding Park Hotel on Wednesday 9th May.
