The number of people known to be homeless in the Harrogate District has more than doubled in the last year.

Harrogate Borough Council received 180 homeless applications in 2014/15, which is up from 86 in 2013/14.

It comes as the Harrogate Homeless Project calls for more to be done to tackle the issue.

195 people were forced to go to the charity for emergency accommodation between April 2014 and March 2015.

The council says it's helping to reduce the problem and last year it prevented more than 700 households from becoming homeless.

We've been speaking to Carol Loftus, Housing Needs Manager at Harrogate Borough Council.
