AUDIO: MP says Harrogate rail electrification remains a priority

Harrogate and Knaresborough MP Andrew Jones has told Stray FM he's "still optimistic" that the Harrogate rail line will be electrified.

Andrew Jones's comments follow news that work to upgrade the main TransPennine link between Manchester and York will be relaunched, after being halted just after the General Election.

Mr Jones, who is also Transport Minister, said with regards to the Harrogate line, the situation "hasn't changed", but that it remained a priority.

Reports on Thursday suggested that Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin was tempering expectation, describing work to continue electrification as a "big task".
