The number of people failing to tax their cars has increased since the paper tax disc was withdrawn last year.

The current system, introduced in October 2014, relies on an electronic database to see who has paid their Vehicle Excise Duty.

Now police have new powers to seize vehicles of owners whose VED is more than two months overdue.

A fee then has to be paid to get them back.

Stray Extra has been out with officers in North Yorkshire as part of a special for tonight's Education and Training Show and seen the new powers in action.

You can hear a clip with Traffic Constable David Minto:

Tonight's show is available to listen live online from 7pm or on DAB radio, or if you miss it you can download the podcast.
