Poorly children from across Yorkshire have been given an extra special Christmas treat.

Airline Monarch has taken them and their parents or carers on a flight from Leeds Bradford Airport to find Santa.

They were specially chosen by charities and organisations including Martin House Children's Hospice, Leeds Teaching Hospitals Charitable Foundation and Cancer Research UK.

At check-in, families were greeted by staff in fancy dress and carol singers in front of the Christmas tree.

In the Yorkshire Premier Lounge, they enjoyed pre-flight food, drink and entertainment.

Once on board the plane, their hour-long flight took them across to Hull and up the coast towards Flamborough, before heading back inland.

After Captain Christmas asked the children to keep an eye out for Santa, he then made his special appearance.

When they were back on the ground, he gave every youngster a special gift to remember their magical journey.

Paula Pierre-Madigan and her husband took their two children along for the ride:

Tony Hallwood, Aviation Development Director at Leeds Bradford Airport, explained why it's so important to support the families:
