Family and neighbours have rallied around to help an elderly Otley resident evacuated from her home on Boxing Day.

Norma, 87, (pictured with her daughter) was forced to take her valuables and possessions upstairs after the River Wharfe burst its banks.

Her home was one of the worst affected in the town.

Norma was rescued, under protest, by firefighters after water levels in her front room rose to over one-and-a-half feet.

She said: "I've only just come home, I've been staying at my daughter's overnight and getting warm.

"I'm going to have to throw out everything that I thought was precious, that's the hard part.

"I mean what do we do? If I hadn't people here with me now, what would I have done? Mr Cameron wouldn't have helped me would he?"

A small army of relatives and neighbours have been helping to clear the property and bag anything which is beyond salvaging.
