Businesses on the A59 between Harrogate and Skipton are calling for a solution to the ongoing road closure at Kex Gill.

It was closed after significant movement and substantial cracks were detected on the hillside following heavy rain.

In recent years, there have been landslips on this stretch of road during bad weather.

Howard Barker, a local businessman and member of Washburn Parish Council, has been telling Stray FM how the disruption is affecting customers:

North Yorkshire County Council has carried out more surveys to help it draw up a plan of action.

County Councillor Don Mackenzie, North Yorkshire's Executive Member for Highways, said: "We are doing everything we can to find out how to stabilise the hillside at Kex Gill in order to reopen the road.

"We do not underestimate the significant inconvenience this A59 closure presents to road users in the North Yorkshire, Leeds and Bradford areas, but safety on the highway must be our greatest priority."

Whilst the road closure continues, drivers are being asked to use the official diversion route via Ilkley and steer clear of minor roads.
