More of us are choosing gardens as a destination for a day out.

The Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA) says visitor numbers increased 3.5% last year.

It meant a record year for the Royal Horticultural Society, with Harrogate’s Harlow Carr seeing a 5% increase.

Visitor Services Manager Rik Anderson spoke to Stray FM about the demographic shift they’ve seen in recent years:

Visitor numbers at other UK attractions were also up and ALVA says there was an overall increase of 3.2% on the previous year.

The top 10 most visited UK attractions were all London-based.

The British Museum remained the country's most popular attraction for the ninth year running, with 6,820,686 visitors.
