People who removed safety barriers from a damaged bridge near Kirk Hammerton are being condemned by council officials.

Work is due to start next month on the old Skip Bridge to repair damage caused by erosion and a lorry hitting the wall.

Removing the barriers exposed a 20-foot drop down into the River Nidd.

North Yorkshire County Council says that the barriers are for public safety and should not be removed.
