That's About It!
It takes the adjudicators a while to sort the results and get them organised and presented - we'll aim to bring them to you later on, but in the meantime I'm going to sign off. McQueen's Cafe is closing and they want me to stop making the place look untidy. Massive thanks to them for putting up with me and well done to everyone who took part in the Great Knaresborough Bed Race 2016!

2:53pm

While You Wait
Today is also World Gin Day - so why not learn about the spirit of the moment with our friends at Spirit of Harrogate and Slingsby Gin.

2:39pm

20 Minutes To Go
The race begins at 3pm and the river is ready for it...

2:17pm

Never Take Sweets From Strangers
Unless they're definitely from Stray FM. You know they are because they have Nick Hancock and Will Smith messing around...

2:10pm

Meanwhile...
I've brought my family along to experience the bed race today and here's Stray FM's Under 1 Correspondent inspecting some of the Knaresborough creativity.

1:55pm

Entertainment
So, the parade is finishing up in Conyngham Hall Fields now which is the start and finish of the race. Nick, Chris and Will are hosting the stage and there's all sorts of fun to be had down there.

At 2:45pm there'll be an official welcome and start ceremony, before the race kicks off at 3pm.

We'll be showing some of the race live on Facebook, so join us to see how the teams are coping as they head down Knaresborough High Street!

1:45pm

Best Dressed
Our first winner of the day has been chosen and it's the Best Dressed. The tradition is for them to lead the parade so to see it for yourself, just watch this video of the very beginning of the Parade.

1:36pm

Buzzing Beds
Such amazing efforts have gone into these beds and Knaresborough is loving the Parade. Check out these live videos we took as it passed our base.

1:08pm

At Least They're Represented Here
They might not have made the euros, but there's a Scottish flavour in Knaresborough. Perhaps it's the delegation looking to setup Loch Lomand's Great Bed Race in 2017.

1:02pm

Going LIVE on Facebook
The Stray team are about to go live on our Facebook page for the Parade which starts in moments.
Check our page out here facebook.com/strayfm

12:56pm

Keep You Safe

Big up (so down with the kids) to all the volunteers, marshals and everyone involved with getting the race on today and keeping everyone safe and sound. Including this lot.

12:50pm

Clarification
Re: 12:47pm I should point out that the Myrings team are very beautiful. The Stray team, questionable.

12:47pm

15 Minutes Til Parade
The crowds are gathering and my home for today, McQueens cafe seems to have emptied. It must be almost time for the parade. Look out for this ugly, sorry, gorgeous lot, who are handing out goodies with our friends at Myrings.

12:44pm

Happy Birthday Your Majesty
If you've just got out of bed after celebrating the extra hour of pub opening, you'll be all over the fact that it's the Queen's Birthday today. We haven't forgotten in Knaresborough either...

12:40pm

One Of Our Own
Stray FM's very own long serving news guy, Patrick Dunlop is part of the Scotton Scorchers team taking part in the race today. Good luck Paddy!!

12:34pm

Marvellous Myrings
Do say hello to our media partners Myrings if you see them. We'll be handing out lots of free gits with them during the parade in just a bit.

12:28pm

What's At Stake?
There are a number of prizes up for grabs as part of the race, which is a gruelling time trial over a 2.4 mile course, ending with a swim through the icy waters of the River Nidd.

Here's what we're looking to crown today:

FASTEST TEAM
FASTEST FEMALE TEAM
FASTEST NON CLUB MALE TEAM
FASTEST NON CLUB FEMALE TEAM
FASTEST NEW TEAM
FASTEST MIXED TEAM
FASTEST MIXED JUNIOR TEAM
FASTEST MALE JUNIOR TEAM
BEST DRESSED BED
MOST ENTERTAINING TEAM
OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO BED RACE

12:19pm

Where To Watch

Coming to Knaresborough to cheer on the teams? The organisers have this advice for you to pick the best spot...

Know the course. Look at the map in advance so you understand what to expect on race day. The Castle Top is a must if you want to experience the expectation and excitement and see the beds in all their finery before the Parade. The High Street is a fantastic place to watch the Parade and listen to the music played by the marching bands.

Race watching is a tricky one. Cheer the teams on at the start on Conyngham Hall field, give them your support as they struggle up Castle Ings, join the crowds in the Market Place, keep up as they hurtle down the High Street and then past the World‘s End pub and over High Bridge. If water’s your thing then join the many who watch the famous river crossing in Mackintosh fields or as they cross the finish line at Conyngham Hall.

A large LED screen will be in place in Conyngham Hall field - so head there if you want to watch all the action as it happens. To enable accessibility for all we are hoping to have a disabled viewing area in the Market Place.bed race map

12:14pm

Great Costumes On Display
As I walked across town I saw some fantastic costumes. And this one could be the best yet...

12:10pm

Judging
There are of course prizes for the quickest teams, but prior to that there are prizes for the best dressed! And it's all getting serious now...

12:08pm

Road Closures
Don't forget that basically the whole town centre of Knaresborough is closed to traffic from 12:30pm. Full details taken from the Bed Race's website here:

The town centre will be closed from 12.30 To 5.00pm. The roads affected are; The A59 from Forest Lane Head via Harrogate Road, High Bridge, Bond End and High Street (including all the side streets there from). Waterside - from Castle Mills to Bond End, Market Place, Cheapside, Castlegate, Fisher Street and Boroughbridge Road from Stockwell Road Junction to Bond End. Road closures are also shown on our map.

Additional Road Closure 2.30 to 4.30pm : Waterside - from Castle Mills to Briggate

12:07pm

Check Out The Teams

Looking good!!

12:05pm

How Does This All Work?

If, like me, this is your first Bed Race, you're probably wondering how this all works. So here's a run down of timings:

Now - the 90 teams are displaying their beds at Knaresborough Castle for families to enjoy in all their finery.

1pm - the teams parade their beds around the town ahead of the race.
2pm - entertainment on the stage with Nick and Will plus The Directors band in Conyngham Hall Fields
3pm - the race begins! Teams set off every ten seconds
3:15-4pm - beds arrive at the finish line
4pm (ish) - announcement of results

11:44am

The Beds Are On Display

And the boys are broadcasting live. Who thought it was a good idea to let Nick Hancock, Christopher Dean and Will Smith all loose on the same day?

11:33am

Welcome to the Live Blog!

It's the 51st Knaresborough Bed Race and this is the home of all the coverage! Get involved via our social media channels @StrayFM on Twitter and on Facebook using the #StrayBedRace.

I'm sat in McQueens cafe in Knaresborough pulling this together - right at the heart of the town!
