A racehorse named in memory of a Knaresborough toddler has run for the first time at Ripon.

Sadieroseclifford was ridden by jockey Simon Pearce and finished sixth in the 18.45 Kirkgate Maiden Auction Fillies' Stakes on Monday.

Two-year-old Sadie bravely fought a rare form of childhood cancer called neuroblastoma, but she tragically lost her battle in June 2012.

Her grandad, Graham Gotts, told Stray FM: "It just means that Sadie's memory and Sadie's name is still going to be out there. People will see the horse and think straightaway of Sadie Rose Clifford, the little girl from Knaresborough.

"To see Sadie's name down there in the paper and the beautiful colours of the silks that the jockey was wearing, it made your hair stand on end on your arms. It was just unbelievable."
