It's the week when children are going back to school, but how much does it cost parents?

According to new research carried out by Provident, the average academic year comes with a price tag of more than £1,500 per child.

Some of the main costs include uniforms at £70, packed lunches at £585 and after school clubs at £106.

A third of parents surveyed said they buy their child two replacement pairs of trousers, 10% buy three pairs of shoes and just over 14% buy more than four shirts a year.

It seems the most expensive academic years are 8 and 11, as annual prices hit slightly over £1,700 per child.
