WATCH: Will we be able to see the 'supermoon' in Yorkshire?

The moon will appear bigger and brighter than it has done for nearly 70 years tonight.

Astronomers say the rare 'supermoon' will appear 14% larger and 30% brighter than usual.

However, skywatchers in Yorkshire could be disappointed.

Forecasters are predicting cloud cover, with some outbreaks of light rain, through the night.

Brisk winds are also forecast, raising the possibility that there could be a brief gap in the clouds.

The event is a result of the moon coming to within 221,000 miles of the Earth for the first time since 1948.

If we do get lucky, the moon will appear in all its glory shortly before 5pm.

Skywatchers won't get another chance to see it this big until 25 November 2034.
