Pubs, hotels, restaurants and shops across Yorkshire are celebrating UK Sausage Week.

They have organised events, special promotions, competitions and tastings to help raise the status of the great British banger.

According to the latest Q Guild Sausage Survey, more than 60% of people prefer to buy their bangers from a high street butcher's shop.

Traditional sausages were picked as a favourite option by nearly 90% of people, with sausage rolls coming second and chipolatas not far behind.

Pork was the most popular type of sausage meat, followed by beef, lamb and venison.

Meanwhile, tomato ketchup was the preferred condiment with sausages, followed by brown sauce, mustard and chutney.

More than 20% of people said they don't have any condiment with their sausages.

But what about bangers and mash?

Mashed potatoes are enjoyed with sausages by more than 50% of people asked, whilst others prefer them in a sandwich or roll.

Butcher Grant Baildon and Stephanie Moon, from Stray FM's Food and Drink Show, explain what makes a good sausage:

This year's UK Sausage Week kicked off with a celebration lunch at Plaisterers' Hall in London, when awards were dished out for some of the country's best bangers.

Antiques Roadshow expert and 2017 sausage ambassador Eric Knowles presented the winners with their certificates.

More than 400 different products were entered into the competition and Elite Meat in Starbeck won an award for its Prime Yorkshire Pork Sausage.
