LISTEN: The man who went to war to save lives

Published at 1:26pm 10th November 2017.

School pupils in Harrogate have been hearing about an extraordinary man who went to war to save lives.

Stretcher-bearer William Coltman was recognised for his bravery during the First World War.

He became the most highly decorated, non-commissioned officer of the British Army after saving countless lives.

As a committed Christian, he refused to take a life, but willingly put himself in dangerous situations, including no-man's land.

Ahead of Remembrance Sunday, his Great Grandson Tim Coltman (pictured above), from Burton, has been in Harrogate today, speaking to pupils at Richard Taylor School.

He also had time to speak to Stray FM:

Tim is also speaking at the gospel hall in Woodfield Grove, Harrogate, tonight from 7.00pm.
