Mayor leads Harrogate march marking 100 years since women got the vote

A march has taken place through Harrogate today marking 100 years since some women first gained the right to vote.

It was lead by the Mayor Cllr. Anne Jones (above) and recognised some of the the sacrifices of the suffragettes.

The march started at 10.45am in Crescent Gardens and made its way up to Knapping Mount.

Harrogate Ladies College attended the march.

Elsewhere, the Prime Minister Teresa May will deliver a speech, to mark the centenary.

She is expected to announce plans to clampdown on online abuse, while hailing the "heroism" of the suffragettes who won the vote for women 100 years ago.
