There was further evidence of the tough times being experienced by independent traders in Harrogate after one shop revealed it had taken just £12.34 at the till yesterday.

Book shop ImaginedThings, based inside the Westminster Arcade, took to Twitter to reveal it had experienced its 'worst day ever'.

Within twelve hours, the post had generated over 1500 retweets and over 115 comments.

Fans of the store, which styles itself as 'Harrogate's independent bookshop', were quick to show their support.

After a number of requests were made to make purchases online, the store owner admitted that their online shop isn't up and running and yet, but pledged to set up something as soon as possible.

Owner of ImaginedThings, Georgia Duffy, said:

"We're amazed by the response, we can't believe it.

"We've had people saying lots of lovely things, saying support us, wanting to buy books, wanting to donate money.

"Just crazy stuff we didn't expect at all."
