Businesses in Pateley Bridge say tourists are "flocking" to the town from across the UK thanks to a TV documentary.

  • Nidderdale featured in the first episode of a BBC 2 documentary shown on 25th March
  • 'Britain in Bloom' featured volunteers from Pateley in Bloom
  • Businesses say it's caused a surge in tourism
  • They say visitors from across the UK are visiting after seeing the area on TV

The town featured on the first episode of BBC 2 series 'Britain in Bloom'

It followed volunteers from Pateley in Bloom on their mission to win their first ever Britain in Bloom Gold Award.

Businesses have reported a rise in visitors following the airing of the programme on 25th March.

Chairman of Pateley in Bloom and Chair of Nidderdale Chamber of Trade, Keith Tordoff said:

"It was half an hour showcasing Pateley Bridge and the work we did throughout last summer.

"The impact from the TV show was immediate.

"The morning after people came into my businesses saying they saw it on TV and they'd driven up from Norwich!"

Keith says other businesses have reported the same thing, with tourists coming from across the UK.

Keith added:

"They've flocked to Pateley Bridge.

"People are also booking accommodation to stay later in the year. I've got no doubt Easter's going to be very, very busy and the summer as well.

"You couldn't pay for that kind of advertising.

"It really showcased Pateley Bridge, Pateley Bridge looked so colourful and vibrant."

The episode is available to watch on BBC iplayer until 24th April

It strikes me as a little odd, until we're told that her 'owner' was a woman - even though she was forced to have sex with hundreds of men, she trusts us more than the other women around.
