A budget airline is going to launch services between Yorkshire and Spain.

From March 2016, Vueling will operate twice-weekly flights on a Monday and a Friday between Leeds Bradford Airport and Barcelona.

Flights on both days will depart Leeds Bradford at 0915 and return flights will depart Barcelona at 0700.

Vueling is part of the International Airlines Group and has its largest Spanish base at Barcelona.

Tony Hallwood, Aviation Development Director at Leeds Bradford Airport, said: "We welcome the addition of Vueling as LBA's newest carrier and this announcement is great news for Harrogate and North Yorkshire.

"With great customer service and competitive fares, the airline will be welcomed by both business and leisure travellers.

"We expect that Harrogate will become a popular destination for inbound Spanish visitors as LBA becomes a new UK gateway for the airline."

Brian Dunsby, Chief Executive of Harrogate Chamber of Trade and Commerce, added: "We welcome the new direct link between Yorkshire and Barcelona.

"It will help to attract Spanish delegates to Harrogate's many international conferences and trade exhibitions.

"The new flights will also be popular with many local businesses with customers in Spain and with those local residents who own holiday property in Spain."

Michael Newby, Director of Visit Harrogate, said: "Visit Harrogate is always keen to promote our fantastic district to overseas markets and so welcome any development that helps to bring new tourists to our area.

"This new link with Spain opens up new opportunities for us to boost our local visitor economy."
