One of Harrogate's best-loved restaurants has closed its doors for the last time.

After 14 years of serving countless customers, Bed Restaurant could no longer compete with the "tsunami" of new restaurants opening in the town centre.

A fall in conference trade also meant that it couldn't survive on Fridays and Saturdays alone.

In an emotional post on Facebook, owner Dave Burns said: "I have had the privilege of meeting some truly amazing folk from all walks of life...from the rich and famous to just normal folk like you and me. I even met Bernard Hinault once...did I ever tell you that story?...and along that path I have met some people who have since become great friends.

"I couldn't have done it without my wingman and chef superextraordinaire and culinary master, Simon."

Dave also thanked his "amazing, true, loyal, hard-working" staff who were affectionately called the 'Motley Crew'.

He finished by wishing other independent businesses "continued wealth and happiness", and also called on everyone to support them.

Dave's many highlights over the years include hosting a private dinner for the organisers of the Tour de France in 2014.
