A hairdresser in Harrogate is celebrating after being recognised as one of the UK's top stylists.

Joseph Ferraro, who owns two salons, has been crowned North Eastern Hairdresser of the Year at the British Hairdressing Awards in London.

Australian-born Joseph, 34, opened his first salon in Harrogate 10 years ago.

He said: "This is the fifth time lucky for me and to be finally crowned North Eastern Hairdresser of the Year is just fantastic.

"I have worked incredibly hard over the years to get to this position - and been supported by my brilliant team at Joseph Ferraro Hair, as well as my wonderful wife Lesley.

"I feel extremely grateful to be part of such a talented industry - and am delighted to have been chosen as one of the best hairdressers in the UK."

The British Hairdressing Awards, which are recognised as the industry's Oscars, have launched the careers of many household names, including Jamie Stevens, Andrew Barton, Nicky Clarke and John Frieda.

The ceremony was hosted by comedian and author David Walliams, alongside Hairdressers Journal International's executive director, Jayne Lewis-Orr.

She said: "This award cements Joseph as the North Eastern region's leading hair talent. But a win doesn't just mean you're the very best in the area, it also marks you out as one of the greatest stylists in the country.

"This win positions you as an expert and puts Harrogate on the map too."

Joseph combines his work at the salons with a busy diary of fashion shoots, education seminars and live hairdressing shows.

He's also a regular at London Fashion Week, as well as top industry events Salon International and Pro Hair Live.
