On a survey published in The Lancet which monitored over a million people it was revealed that the mortality rate of those who sit down for over four hours a day is raised by 60%. Now, this is a worrying statement in itself, but when you consider how sedentary many peoples daily routines actually are, it suddenly appears even more daunting.

So rather than sitting back and watching us destroy out health, O'Connor Chiropractic are standing up for what's right and are encouraging us to get moving! And it's about a lot more than just vanity.

It's been recommended that for people who sit down for up to eight hours a day 60 - 75 minutes of exercise should be a daily goal. Dr Jason O'Connor gave some tips on getting the best exercise:

  • Do something you enjoy
  • Start gently with low-intensity exercise such as walking or cycling if you're fairly new to it
  • Interval training or HIIT (interspersing exercise with sudden high energy bursts) has been proven to be one of the most successful methods of getting fit
  • You can could even join in with a running club making it sociable occasion as well

Beth Parsons from Stray FM's Health and Wellbeing Show talked to Dr Jason O'Connor from O'Connor Chiropractic about the importance of exercise in our increasingly motionless daily routines.
