Volunteers bridge gap after Nidderdale bus service cuts

Volunteers bridge gap after Nidderdale bus service cuts

Business leaders in Pateley Bridge have joined forces with volunteers and Harrogate Bus Company to help commuters get home.

It follows controversial changes to the 24 bus route, which include scrapping the last service of the day from Harrogate at 6.30pm.

That has left some people struggling to travel back to Pateley Bridge after work.

Whilst talks about the future of the route continue, the Nidderdale Plus Community Car is providing journeys from Harrogate Bus Station each evening.

Passengers don't have to pay if they have already bought a bus pass or season ticket, but journeys must be booked in advance, because the car only carries four people.

The short-term initiative is being funded by Nidderdale Chamber of Trade and Harrogate Bus Company, with volunteer drivers running the service.

Anyone who would like to book a journey from Harrogate to Pateley Bridge is asked to call Nidderdale Plus on 01423 714953, Keith Tordoff on 07552 769000 or e-mail nidderdale@hotmail.com
