Views on farming remain stronger than ever

Views on farming remain stronger than ever

It's said that 90% of the UK still believe farming to be extremely important to the UK economy.

A recent survey by NFU shows that over two thirds of consumers will look for British food when shopping.

64% of people also trust British food more than the rest of the world.

Farmers are still concerned about the effects of Brexit on their business.

There are questions around whether farms will have enough working jobs and interest, as well as the policies farmers will have to comply with.

Adam Bedford, North East Regional Director for NFU, believes there's a positive future for farmers.

However, he says farmers are thinking long-term: "A lot of farmers are also thinking how does that have an affect on me and my family and business, whether they're a dairy farmer or beef and sheep farmer - there's a lot of those in Yorkshire - they're trying to make plans based of what they think will be best for them.

"The future is going to be about making sure farm businesses are able to operate on a good foot and trade across the EU like they have done in the past.

"We want the Government to create the right environment for farmers to continue to prosper.

"There's an expectation from the public that we have a farming industry that is able to deliver for them and that's what farmers want to carry on doing."
