Business leaders are calling on everyone in Nidderdale to support the Sunday bus service.

The 24 is due to stop during the winter months, because of falling passenger numbers.

However, campaigners say the route between Harrogate and Pateley Bridge is vital all year round.

They have launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise £4,000 to maintain the service for the next two years.

The project is being managed by the Dales and Bowland Community Interest Company, in conjunction with Nidderdale Plus, Nidderdale Chamber of Trade and The Harrogate Bus Company.

Its aim is to open up Nidderdale to visitors from outside the area, by providing better-timed services to connect with other buses at Harrogate Bus Station, whilst providing valuable connections for local residents.

Keith Tordoff, Chairman of Nidderdale Chamber of Trade, told Stray FM: "Without this bus service, we'll become more isolated and people are likely to use public transport less, which ultimately can mean other services are cut further down the line.

"I'm hoping businesses really come on board with this, because we're looking for a new launch on the whole 24 service. From that, there'll be new liveried coaches which identify that this is a brand, it's a tour, it's a scenic route, and hopefully people will recognise that this is going to benefit their individual circumstances and certainly businesses."
