Damn Yankee is back under new ownership, so we sent Stray FM's James Stanley down to experience the re-opened venue...

"I've got to be honest, Friday lunchtime couldn't of come quick enough, I was starving.  After finishing the mid-morning show I joined a colleague who kindly took me into town ready to try out Damn Yankee.  It's the first time I've ever been to the restaurant and I've got to say I wasn't disappointed.

The thought of a big, juicy burger had me sold from the moment we decided to go.  As we arrived we were welcomed with a big smile from the staff and taken to a red and white striped booth near the back of the restaurant which ended up being a real tease, as the smells coming from the kitchen were really wetting my appetite.

As we looked through the menu, I headed straight to the burger section.  With great names like 'Pig N Cow,'  'The Meatloaf Deli,' and 'The Imposter' the burgers had me intrigued.  I went for the delicious sounding 'Smokey Joe.'  It promised an applewood smoked cheese and bacon burger smothered in their own bbq sauce.

Within ten minutes the food was at our table and looked and smelt great.  I love this kind of finger food.  Forget the knife and fork, I was straight in with the hands and bbq sauce all around my mouth.

The portion size was spot on and I didn't feel stuffed after, it was just the right amount.  The burger was spot on, and the buns they use made it even better.  I had heard the chips weren't great the last time around at Damn Yankee, but let me get rid of that speculation straight away, as they were spot on.

As a Dad of a 4 year I would highly recommend this restaurant for you and your family as I can guarantee my wife, little boy and myself would happily munch away on the delicious food on offer.  From ribs to hot dogs, burgers to fajitas, they have something for everyone, even a cheeky cocktail if you fancy it."
