Planning a wedding: exciting and daunting in equal measures. Professional event planners Blue Sky Events have advice for marquee based occasions.

Thanks to the experts, we've been answering some FAQs...

When should you have an event in a marquee?

There aren't actually any limits on this, but obviously the Great British weather means holding an event during the colder and wetter months can be more of a risk. Generally Summer is the safest time bracket when there is less chance of rain, wind or soft ground. No matter when you decide to have you marquee event though, it's always important to have a wet weather plan - as we all know, August monsoons are not unheard of!

Temperature is an important aspect of using a marquee. No matter what time of year heaters can keep you warm, and opening windows or side panels can create air flow to keep you cool. You'd also be surprised how much warmer things can get with a dance floor of energetic party-goers too!

How much in advance do you need to plan?

Plenty of people manage to organise events in marquees with very little pre-planning time, but it's important to bare in mind that the less time you have the less options you'll have. Suppliers, bands, caterers, photographers, florists etc will all be busy and the chances of being able to get exactly what you're after is slim with less time. The team from Blue Sky Events recommend getting things booked in 12 - 18 months in advance.

Where can you put your marquee?

Hard ground, soft ground, uneven surfaces - it's all doable! If you know a location you'd like to put a marquee it's all about talking to the right people. Ground rent is likely to be charged though. Also a lot of local venues such as hotels cater for outdoor events which can then give you the added benefit of having access to hotel rooms, inside space and even spas! Location wise it's all about asking the right questions to the right people.

What do people often forget about marquee events?

Sometimes some of the most seemingly obvious things are forgotten about... such as electricity! Last minute panicky calls asking for generators are more common that you might realise! Luckily, this can often be arranged, but imagine if it couldn't...
