Fundraisers will take to the countryside paths and streets around Ripon for the annual Sunrise Walk in aid of Saint Michael's Hospice on Sunday 8 October.

The ever-popular event, which is organised by the Crimple Valley Fundraising Group and sponsored by Eura Audit Ripon, raises vital funds to support families affected by terminal illness and bereavement.

The six-mile route starts from Sawley Village Hall before dawn and will see scores of local people make their way towards Fountains Abbey and down through Studley Royal deer park.

As walkers arrive back at sunrise, they will be greeted with breakfast refreshments at Ripon Cathedral Hall.

Sandra Gilbert, Chairman of the Crimple Valley Fundraising Group, said: "It is hard to describe the feeling as you set off in the dark, torch in hand with a great group of people, and experience the dawn rising around you as the deer move through the park - it is very atmospheric.

"Walkers tell us that the early start is worthwhile for the beautiful views across Ripon, and following the walk, people have the rest of their Sunday to enjoy."

Registration is £10 for adults and £5 for under-15s, including a breakfast sandwich and a warming cuppa.
