A volunteer from Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association (UWFRA) is preparing for a gruelling charity challenge this weekend.

Joe Parsons, who is part of a dedicated team which responds to around 50 emergency calls each year, has decided to raise money towards the annual running costs of £40,000.

After competing in local fell races, 31-year-old Joe, from Skipton, is now turning his attention to the Montane Spine MRT Challenge.

It's a 108-mile race along the Pennine Way, from Edale in Derbyshire to Hardraw in the Dales, and must be completed in 60 hours.

Joe will have to carry a rucksack full of equipment and fend for himself on the route which is described as "physically and psychologically demanding".
