Six mums from Harrogate are taking on their biggest challenge yet - they're trekking across the Sahara desert!

Michelle, Lucy, Louise, Paula, Jo and Anne, are known as the Sahara 6.

Today (14th February 2018) the group have left their homes, families and friends, to take on sandstorms, reptiles and the hot desert sun!

They will climb to the top of the Chicago Dunes, trekking for 8 hours a day, over 4 days.

The group are raising awareness of mental health and are supporting Harrogate's Wellspring along the way.

They've secured sponsors so that the group have a number of camels alongside them to help carry their luggage for the trek.

Sponsors include Studio One, The Brain Collective, CNG, Harrogate Interiors, Artemis, Brooks. The group have also had contributions from Will and Vics, Albivio and Slingbys Gin. Sahara 6 want to thank the local community for their support.

Take a listen to Paula Conroy, one of the Sahara 6 members who came to chat to Alice Sofield prior to their challenge:

The mums have become involved in Michelle's '£40k' mission. Michelle wanted to complete a specific major challenge each year, over ten years, until 2021. She has managed to reach her £40,000 target - with 3 years to go - with the help of the rest of the girls!

Sahara 6 have held various fundraisers throughout the year to raise money for this specific challenge.

They have managed to raise £10,000, but hope to raise more for Harrogate's Wellspring with a few more fundraisers they have planned for when they return home. The group feel passionately that this money for Wellspring will go along way for the local charity.
