Don't ruin the party with bad wine

If you're planning a party, stocking up for the festive season, or getting ready for the big day itself have you already decided which wine you'll choose this Christmas? Wine and beer specialists Ake and Humphris in Harrogate and Collingham might have just the trick.

But should choosing the wine be such a daunting task? Ake and Humphris gave us some hints which may make you feel a little more relaxed.

  • Remember to choose what YOU like. Yes you may have guests, but if you're treating them to a lovely Christmas evening or lunch we're pretty sure they'll be grateful whatever you give them. If they're not, ditch them as friends in time for next year.
  • Sticking with turkey? Traditionally most people go with a full-bodied red, but there isn't any wrong answer here as, being a white meat, you can opt for a white wine instead.
  • Nibbles and drinks taking priority? Prosecco is (almost) a guaranteed winner.
  • Prices - whilst it may feel that bit more exciting if you spend slightly more on your wine than you would normally (it is an occasion after all), don't overspend and regret it. There are plenty of options at a range of budgets.
  • Gifts sorted. The team at Ake and Humphris know their stuff so if you still need to buy for someone let them know as much as you can and they will be able to find a bottle (wine, beer or spirits) for that special person. They'll even gift wrap it for you if you ask nicely.

Nip into Ake and Humphris for all the latest offers and wine know-how on Leeds Road, Harrogate or School Lane, Collingham.

Nick Hancock from Stray FM's Food and Drink Show went to talk to Paul Auty and Tara Stagman at Ake and Humphris on Leeds Road, Harrogate getting the Christmas wine right.
