This year's Harrogate Christmas Market attracted thousands of visitors from across the UK.

Organisers of the four-day event say nearly 60,000 people visited the stalls and attractions, with many also visiting shops, restaurants, cafés, bars and other businesses in town.

Brian Dunsby, who leads the team of voluntary organisers, said: "It has been a fantastic four-day event once again, and the feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive.

"A few adjustments to the layout, including widening many of the aisles, helped to improve the flow of visitors at peak times. The wet weather didn't put our visitors off, and the stallholders are reporting a very successful market.

"Not only that, but the local shops, cafés and restaurants in Harrogate have all told us they have been extremely busy with early Christmas shoppers. The first ever Christmas Market services from London certainly helped to give a big boost to the event and put Harrogate on the map, so we're very grateful to Virgin Trains East Coast for their support and enthusiasm."

Organisers also say they have already had enquiries from businesses hoping to take a stall at next year's event.

Harrogate Christmas Market chairman John Fox added: "This year has certainly been our best yet and we must say particular thanks to our volunteers, who gave up their time to help us set up, run and take down the market.

"Our Market Makers have helped to welcome our visitors and assist our traders, which makes Harrogate particularly special - we get a lot of compliments about our brilliant team. We are always looking for additional help to keep things running smoothly, so I would invite anyone interested in joining us to get in touch.

"We simply could not achieve all we do for the benefit of the Harrogate District without the support and commitment of our brilliant volunteers. We're very grateful to local businesses and residents for their cooperation and support too - they all help to make the market the special event that it is."
