LISTEN: Drink-driving on the rise In Harrogate

We all like to have a good time at Christmas, whether it's the office do, catching up with friends, having a special lunch out while you're doing the shopping or even making time to watch some festive sport over a pint - it's a time to have a break and enjoy yourself.

Every year, we hear about the Christmas crackdown on anti-social behaviour and drink driving. We're also used to hearing that numbers of offences are on the decline as messages are getting through to those who may have engaged in that behaviour in the past.

This year, however, drink-driving convictions are three times higher than at the same time last year.

Julia Stack and Simon Aston from Harrogate Borough Council popped into Stray FM's Christmas Show to give an update on how Harrogate is welcoming festive party-goers with open arms, and how they're aiming to make sure that everyone stays safe this winter.

Julia and Simon's Top Tips for a safe night out:

  • Plan your journey home
  • If someone you know is thinking of driving while drunk try to take their keys away
  • You can still be well over the limit for the FULL DAY after a big night out - so if you have to travel make sure you use public transport
