The iconic Knaresborough Christmas Tree will be switched on in the Market Place tonight, Friday.

It's the perfect antidote to all those stories of people spending too much money on things they don't need on Black Friday.

Knaresborough's Bright Friday is meant to be a celebration of the local market town and the official start of the festive season.

The event starts at 6pm this evening, with the Christmas Tree being lit at 6:30pm.

You can expect a light parade from the Castle at around 6pm as well as performances from the Knaresborough Silver Band, Studio 3 Dancers and Knaresborough Choral Society.

There'll be the obligatory Christmas tipple of Mulled Wine, a selection of Street Food and carols will be sung.

And there'll be a visit from the big man himself as Father Christmas makes an appearance.
