The Oak & The Ash, which features in Otley's Christmas advert, has hit the early week charts.

The song is the soundtrack to the town's John Lewis-style Christmas advert.

It has become a viral hit with a social media having reached more than 70,000 since it's launch earlier this month.

Early week charts showed The Oak & The Ash had entered the iTunes singer-songwriter category at number 35.

The Oak & The Ash, also known as North Country Maid and once a hit for Marianne Faithfull, was arranged by local singer and musician Sally Egan, with vocals provided by her 16-year-old daughter Sylvia Cullen.

Sylvia is a member of the Opera North Youth Chorus and had been a backing singer for Barry Manilow.

Here's what happened when our reporter Alice Sofield went to visit the duo:

The accompanying short Otley Christmas film has been designed to help promote the town's Christmas offering with its many independent shops and pubs:

Lead roles are played by lifelong Otley resident and Yeadon Operatics Society member Pam Beck, and Ilkley-born Robson Stroud, a semi-professional actor.

The single is available on digital services such as iTunes, Amazon Music and Spotify.
