One of Yorkshire's best-known community choirs is preparing to make its festive debut at Harrogate's Royal Hall.

More than 300 members of Rock Up and Sing! - plus its Youth Choir - will perform a concert at the historic venue a week before Christmas.

Nearly nine years after it was established, this will be the first time that the choir has performed for Christmas at the Royal Hall.

Choir director Rhiannon Gayle said: "We were really surprised when we looked back and discovered we've never given a Christmas concert at the Royal Hall - so we decided to put that right this year.

"We've performed at the Royal Hall in the past for charity events and smaller summer concerts, but this is the first time all of our choirs will unite for a Christmas concert there.

"It's a fantastic venue and we have wonderful memories of performing there in the past. Singing for the gala dinner of the Tour de France Grand Départ in 2014 was a particular highlight."

Taking place on Sunday 17 December, Rock Up to Christmas will be the conclusion to a busy festive season which has seen the choirs perform at numerous events and services across the Harrogate District.

The Youth Choir was even invited to perform with Britain's Got Talent winners Collabro at Harrogate Convention Centre at the beginning of December.

Rhiannon added: "We've all worked incredibly hard to create great memories for our audiences this Christmas.

"Our Royal Hall Christmas concert will be a real celebration for us and for the audience. The tickets have been flying out already, so if anyone would like to join us, I'd urge them to book as soon as possible!"

The programme for the night includes Rock Up and Sing!'s take on hits by One Republic, Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Adele and Led Zeppelin, as well as festive songs from across the decades.

Tickets are £15 for adults and £7 for children and available from the Harrogate Theatre Box Office on 01423 502116 or
