Pateley Bridge is well and truly getting into the festive spirit.

As part of the town's countdown to Christmas, businesses have organised a late-night opening event from 5pm to 8.30pm on Friday.

It's their chance to thank loyal customers who have used the High Street, Bridgehouse Gate, Kings Court and King Street Workshops throughout the year.

Entertainment will include performances from Dacre and Summerbridge Silver Band and choir singers.

Upper Nidderdale Scout Group will provide food and Santa is stopping off at the Oldest Sweet Shop.

The celebrations continue on Saturday, with the town hosting a Santa Extravaganza to raise money for local charity Dementia Forward.

Organisers are planning to have around 150 Santas involved in a parade from the Methodist Church to the bottom of the High Street.

After the parade, a plaque will be officially unveiled to mark Pateley's victory in the Great British High Street Awards last year.

It won the village category after a campaign which was led by Nidderdale Chamber of Trade.

Local  MP Julian Smith, who supported the campaign, said: "It is a massive achievement to have won a national competition which had over 900 entries. Pateley Bridge's success in this contest is brilliant - and I believe it has brought much well-deserved attention to our area.

"This time last year, I was so pleased to welcome Keith Tordoff and Kirsty Shepherd to the House of Commons, after they had been to the Great British High Street Awards ceremony.

"I want to pay tribute to them and the Nidderdale Chamber of Trade's efforts in facilitating their entry and their ultimate success!

"I saw the huge amount of hard work that went into putting the town's campaign together and especially in organising the judges' visit. And I am still so pleased that the town's efforts were recognised in this way.

"It is fantastic to have so many people in our villages, towns and communities who are committed to promoting the area and ensuring that it thrives."
