Emmerdale's festive treat for fans

Emmerdale's Christmas Day episode

Published at 7:02am 23rd December 2017.

In a departure from its traditional Christmas storylines, Emmerdale is giving fans an episode devoted to Robert and Aaron - or 'Robron', as they've affectionately become known.

So, what can we expect in the Christmas Day special?

Series Producer Iain MacLeod said: "Think Groundhog Day and A Christmas Carol with a little nod to the film Don't Look Now thrown in and that's been our approach to the Christmas Day episode.

"It's been amazing to produce, as we're constantly thinking of ways to push the boundaries of storytelling and keep Emmerdale fresh and our loyal viewers on their toes!

"We've all acknowledged the risks of filming such a stand-alone episode, but we sincerely hope the audience will appreciate we've tried to do something a bit different, in the same way we devoted an episode to Ashley's story last Christmas."

Terrified by what is happening to him, Robert is pushed to his limits as he continually wakes on Christmas morning to a different reality.

Why can't he escape from this perpetual nightmare? And how will his estrangement from the real love of his life, Aaron, manifest itself?

Iain added: "Apart from the scary aspect to Robert's situation, the episode is also heartfelt and hilarious in parts.

"Christmas wouldn't be the same without a healthy dose of the Dingles and a comedy cameo which we hope will please our viewers. Watch out for the ghost of Christmas Future, as you might recognise them!"

You can watch the hour-long episode on ITV at 7pm.
