Phil Sage, Manager of Skipton Food Bank said:

"We meet people from all sorts of backgrounds, all walks of life. People who've maybe just lost their job or separated from their partner. Or people who are struggling most of the time but have just hit an unexpected bill.

"The hampers are basically Christmas in a box or a bag for people who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford the luxuries or nice things we come to expect at Christmas. Christmas puddings, mince pies, chocolates for the kids, those sort of things."

As well as giving out Christmas hampers, the food bank says Christmas is their busiest time of year for parcels of food.

Phil added:

"The timings of benefits change. Sometimes seasonal workers find themselves out of work. Our need has been increasing year by year."

Val Smith, Committee Member of Ilkley Food Bank said:

"When people ask us about all the food and we explain what we're doing with it, their first reaction is in Ilkley?!

"We say yes, Ilkley. And Burley, Menston, Addingham, Silsden. It's even worse in this area because of transport costs and housing costs."

You can make donations to Ilkley Food Bank at Booths and Tesco.
