Plans have been drawn up to establish a single primary school in Silsden.

It would see Aire View Infant School start taking pupils up to 11 years old, with Hothfield Junior School closing from September 2017.

Bradford Council's Executive will consider the latest proposals when it meets on 15 September.

The new school would have its intake increased to 90 in all year groups.

The council says approximately four out of every five respondents in a consultation supported the proposal for a single primary school in Silsden to replace the existing infant and junior schools.

Michael Jameson, Strategic Director of Children's Services, said: "We are submitting these recommendations to the Executive after speaking as widely as possible with local communities.

"We believe these changes will benefit local children and families."

Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, Executive Member for Education, Skills and Culture, added: "We work continuously to ensure we deliver school places where they are needed most, so more families can send their children to their preferred local schools.

"We will always consider all options in our drive to improve educational provision in our district."
