Seven things Granby kids know to be true

Seven things Granby kids know to be true

Although it's been Harrogate High for more than 10 years, for some, it'll always be Granby.

So ahead of the school moving to a new building in February next year, and with a 'Goodbye Granby' event being held this weekend, here's 7 things all Granby kids will know to be true:

1. The Rocks were the place to be

Although you sometimes had to defend your claim to it, usually with a stick sword fight. You may've also been involved in upper school vs lower school snowball fights here too.

Granby- the rocks

If you didn't hang out at The Rocks, there was always those wooden benches in the lower and upper school 'social areas'...

Or good old lower school hall...

2. The joy of getting an upper school tie

Forget blue and black, it was all about that paleish blue to mark the very important leap from year 9 to year 10.

And while we're on uniform...

  • You mastered the skill of making your tie as short and as wide as possible.
  • AND you knew how to make it look like your shirt was tucked in without it actually being tucked in. It's all in the folding.

3. You had an extensive list of swimming excuses

You were even prepared to fake something a bit gross like a verruca. Anything to not wear that swimming hat....shudder

4. Square pizza looks so wrong but tastes so right

It was the perfect lunchtime snack, unless you were lucky enough to get the vending machines to work. And you wouldn't dream of drinking your juice with a straw - you drank it through a hole in the bottom like a boss.

5. The best P.E. lesson was when the equipment came out

Get from one end of the gym to the other without touching the floor. Just like a giant game of 'the floor is lava'. FUN.

6. Sixth form was EPIC

Your own floor, free lessons, sofas, no uniform, your own dinner lady. Did I mention free lessons? And if you were really lucky, you were taught by Mr Searle.

7. You have to put up with people being judgmental and saying things like "What? You went to Granby?!"

Yes we did. And we're proud of it.

You'll be gone Granby, but never forgotten!
