Deadline looming for school places

Parents across Harrogate, Craven and Wharfedale are being encouraged to apply for school places sooner rather than later.

The closing date for applications in reception or transferring to junior school in September is 15 January.

Any parents who miss the deadline may not be offered a place at their preferred school.

Chris McMackin, from North Yorkshire County Council, said: "A lot of schools are popular and heavily oversubscribed, and if your application is late, it's dealt with after all others.

"If parents feel that there are some particular reasons why they haven't been able to apply on time, they can contact us and explain the reasons why they haven't submitted their application by the closing date, and it may be possible for us to deem their application as being on time."
