Academy plans drawn up for Boston Spa School

Academy plans drawn up for Boston Spa School

Boston Spa School has started a consultation on becoming an academy.

Parents are being asked for feedback on the plans which would see the school go into partnership with The GORSE Academies Trust from September.

Governors, the headteacher and senior leadership team "unanimously believe" that the change will help the school to maintain high standards and become 'Outstanding'.

They say that unlike a situation where a failing school is directed to join an academy chain, their consecutive 'Good' judgements from inspectors give them the opportunity to convert with partners of their choice.

Headteacher Christopher Walsh told Stray FM: "For us, this is all about student achievement, how we are going to be best-placed to get the best possible outcomes for our children.

"Our staff have been positive, our young people have been positive, our parents are steadily giving us their feedback and that is positive too, our local primaries have been positive, so at this stage, our stakeholders welcome the opportunity for Boston Spa to partner in this way with an exceptional academy trust."

So, are there any concerns about the plans?

Mr Walsh added: "Our children, it's always about will our uniform change, will the term dates change - neither of which will. Our parents have been asking about our sixth form provision, so those are the key questions that have been coming forward at this stage."

The consultation will end on Tuesday 23 May and you can get more information at www.bostonspa.leeds.sch.uk
