7 of 10 of North Yorkshire's best ranked secondary schools are in the Stray FM area

  • Schools in Harrogate, Ripon and Skipton feature in a list of North Yorkshire's top 10 secondary schools.
  • It includes schools in Harrogate, Ripon and Skipton.
  • They are ranked based on their Progress 8 measure.

Seven schools in the Harrogate, Craven and Wharfedale are named in the top 10 best secondary schools in North Yorkshire.

They include schools in Harrogate, Ripon and Skipton.

Each of the schools achieved a strong score in the Progress 8 measure, used to assess how much pupils have improved during their time at the school, for the 2017-18 academic year.

Skipton Girls’ High School failed to maintain its title as the highest-ranking school in the region with St Francis Xavier School in Richmond stealing the title.

How are the schools ranked?

Pupils are measured across their scores in eight GCSEs, including core subjects (maths, English and sciences), and their best scores in other, chosen subjects.

These scores are compared to their performance in Key Stage 2 exams, and used to calculate the amount of value the school is adding to a child's education, measured by the institution's Progress 8 score.

The top schools in North Yorkshire, according to their Progress 8 scores, were:

1) St Francis Xavier School (Progress 8 score: 0.99)
2) Ripon Grammar School (0.98)
3) Ryedale School, York (0.87)
4) St Aidan's Church of England High School, Harrogate (0.79)
5) Outwood Academy Ripon (0.75)
6) Upper Wharfedale School, Skipton (0.61)
7) St John Fisher Catholic High School, Harrogate (0.58)
8) Easingwold School, York (0.56)
9) Harrogate Grammar School (0.49)
10) Ermysted's Grammar School, Skipton (0.46)
